The Costa Blanca, on the podium for residential sales and purchases in Spain

The figures are of indisputable weight and significance. Alicante sells 45% of its homes to foreigners, above even the figures for the Balearic Islands and Malaga, which remain at 35%. It is, therefore, and increasingly by far, the Spanish province with the highest number of clients from other countries.

In particular, the number and percentage of buyers opting for luxury properties is increasing. In terms of nationalities, the Dutch are the leading investors, followed by Belgians, British and Poles. Even in macro numbers, Alicante is positioned as the third province in property sales, no less than behind Madrid and Barcelona, a statistic that has been set in stone in recent years.

"There is no doubt that foreign buyers are betting on the Mediterranean, and in particular on a coastal area that has been able to consolidate its proposals: in its infrastructures, its beaches, in the diversification of the type of housing, in different types of leisure and lifestyle...".says Alfonso Merlos, vice-president of DEXTERwhich adds that "We, as a leading company in financial management and intermediation, not only find this international presence in the final buyers of the asset, but also in those who promote and build it, who increasingly come from outside Spain"..

In a residential market that is on the rise, prices are also on the rise. According to data from the Valencia Notarial Council, average purchase prices rose by 12% year-on-year. Nationalities such as Swiss, Norwegian and French continue to drive a clearly cosmopolitan market.
